HARVEST Festival violin concerts in two Exmoor churches helped to raise nearly £500 for the Disasters Emergencies Committee Ukraine Appeal.

Acclaimed teenage Minehead violinist Anthony Knight gave short performances after services in All Saints’ Church, Wootton Courtenay, and St Petrock’s Church, Timberscombe.

During an evening organised by villager Margaret Smith the Wootton Courtenay congregation raised £330 for the DEC appeal.

They also raised £300 for the parish church from a collection at a harvest supper which followed the service.

In Timberscombe, a collection after the service and performance by Anthony brought in £166 for the Ukraine appeal.

The previous week, the St Petrock’s congregation raised £180 for the charity Water Aid.

Anthony, who attends Taunton School, is aiming to complete 100 fund-raising performances and has already raised more than £12,000, including from a tour of major European cities during the summer.
