A MINEHEAD community group is calling for a new marketing image for the town to be looked at again.
And it has come up with its own alternative design, following the unveiling of the new “Minehead Bay” brand in last week’s Free Press.
The recently-formed Minehead Community Group said there had been “a seismic reaction” to the new Minehead Bay theme, which is part of a new brand development for Enterprising Minehead, a partnership project between Minehead Coastal Communities Team, West Somerset Council and partners from the business, voluntary and leisure sectors.
Minehead Community Group – an action group formed in December to be a forum on issues affecting the town’s growth and prosperity – said its membership had jumped from 1,025 on February 7 to 2,174 people by Tuesday of this week due to the new logo issue.

Somerset West and Taunton road closures: two for motorists to avoid over the next fortnightFounder Beresford Mandley said: “It took us by surprise, but across many hundreds of members getting in touch, very few supported the ‘Bay’ theme, and members of the group started to turn their own skills to a design.
“It spread like wildfire once we put up some local suggestions, from local artists who know and love the town.
“Our chosen alternative design then just went viral with almost 100 per cent support.
“We could barely handle the flood of people asking to join the group, as each application has to be individually approved.”
Now the group is planning to write to the Minehead Coastal Communities Team, which is leading the initiative, to ask it to consider replacing its logo choice with the one its members are calling for.
