A NEW West Somerset community organisation, aiming to provide genuinely affordable homes based on local wages, is to be launched at a special event in Minehead on Tuesday November 1.

The West Somerset Community Land Trust (WSCLT) will formally launch at the Beach Hotel, Minehead, with an event entitled ‘Home – where are we all going to live?’.

The trust is supported in the initiative by the national Community Land Trust and the Watchet-based Onion Collective as well as other organisations.

It will include a talk by architect and TV presenter Piers Taylor, the architect working on the regeneration of East Quay in Watchet and on innovative designs for affordable housing.

There will also be an opportunity to find out about the trust, what it wants to change and why, with an interactive session giving people a chance to have their say, as well as a question and answer session.

WSCLT said it is working to provide genuinely affordable homes, based on local wages not national averages.
