I am heartily in agreement with Chris Rundle (Your Letters June 7) regarding noise pollution from Butlin’s.
If I were to open the windows of my house and play music full blast, it wouldn’t be long before the environmental health people clamped down on me for doing so.
That being the case, why are Butlin’s allowed to get away with doing the same?
There is absolutely no reason for any kind of music to be played at such a volume. It is injurious to the hearing of people in close proximity and would make any kind of conversation impossible. ver the Dunster By Candlelight event last December, we volunteers at Dunster Station could clearly hear the racket emanating from Butlin’s, and one volunteer could actually hear it at Blue Anchor before he turned up at Dunster to help out.
What it must be like for the residents of Minehead I shudder to think.
It is now long overdue for the local authority to serve a noise abatement notice on Butlin’s to get them to clean up their act.
Perhaps a petition might be the way forward so that the local authority are left in no doubt as to the feelings of local residents.
