SIR — I would like to express my joy at the news that the Somerset libraries, especially Watchet, were saved from being closed and the mobile libraries were to be re-instated.

This is a victory for common sense and may be now the bureaucrats will check the small print!

You cannot just ride roughshod over people because they will fight back.

I am very proud to be a member of the Watchet Library Friends Committee and they all deserve a special thank you.

An extra special thank you to John Irven, our treasurer, without whose attention to detail we would not have had the information needed to fight in this campaign.

Also a big thank you to Watchet Phoenix who let us use their building for our meetings and also for our fundraisers, and very special thanks to the children of Watchet who did banners, paintings, wrote poems and letters.

There are many more too numerous to mention.

Most of all thanks to the people of Watchet for their support in this campaign. Well done, you all deserve a pat on the back.
