SIR — I am constantly amazed at the quality of plays, musicals and dramas performed by local theatrical companies. Having just seen 'Cymbeline' at the Tithe Barn in Dunster, the bar has just been raised higher.
They call it sawn-off Shakespeare - but, sub plots and battle scenes aside - it was as powerful, intense and moving as anything you'll see on stage. When I say stage, as an audience you are virtually part of the play, as the actors move amongst the tables and sometimes interact with you.
In the hands of some, this approach might not work. You need strong personalities performing at their very best. This was a formidable cast led by Ray Eyers, Jenny Warwick and Clive Wooldridge. They are masters of their game and their performances stay with you long after the play has ended.
The one thing that does surprise me is the lack of teenagers in the audience. If you're young, have an interest in drama and want to see what the very best can do, go to see the next Black Chair production - they have a web site. These productions really are as good as it gets.
