SIR — I wish to add another dimension to the discussion on the proliferation of A-boards in and around Minehead.
I understand all the arguments put forward in your report last week but I feel that there is another pressing reason for outlawing the boards and that is the hazard that they present to visually impaired people.
The heavy boards can be a dangerous obstruction to visually impaired people who can be injured when they walk into them. They can even be forced off of the pavement and into the road to avoid them.
If you are visually impaired you often have to memorise a route and if something like an A-board, which is put out daily and often in a slightly different spot, is placed in your way, it's very difficult to avoid.
It's important to visually impaired people that they have as clear a path as possible along the pavement and A-boards are just one more thing that makes their already difficult journeys even more stressful.
