A WOMAN was cut free from a vehicle and airlifted to hospital after an accident at Heath Poult Cross, near Wheddon Cross, shortly before 8pm yesterday (Tuesday).

A man was also injured and taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Three fire engines, one from Minehead and two from Porlock, went to the scene of the two-vehicle crash on the B3224.

An ambulance team, assisted by the fire crews, gave the trapped casualty first aid, and hydraulic equipment was then used to cut her free. Paramedics cared for both victims.

Highways workers cleared the road of oil and fuel spillage and the matter was left in the hands of the police.
