POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a crash involving three cars, which took place on the A39 between Kilve and West Quantoxhead at around 2pm yesterday.

Three people involved were flown by three different air ambulances to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Bristol Children’s Hospital and Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

One person, a woman in her 70s, remains in a critical condition, but police say all other casualties sustained less serious injuries.

The three other casualties in the accident were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital by road ambulance, and there were also three other people involved.

The road was closed until shortly after 10pm to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

A spokesman for the police said: “We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries.

“We would particularly like to hear from motorists who may have dash-cam footage of the collision.”

The accident involved a Vauxhall Corsa travelling east, which was in collision with a Rover travelling in the opposite direction, and a Citroen was also involved.

Altogether, three road ambulances, an operations officer, three air ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a doctor, three fire appliances from Nether Stowey, Williton and Taunton, and police attended the scene.

Firefighters had to remove the roof of one vehicle and, with the help of paramedics, three of the casualties were extricated, while the others were able to get out by themselves.

One of the vehicles was reported to be smoking when fire crews arrived.
