AFTER a two-year gap caused by Covid-19, Dunster Festival was last week able to resume its programme of learning and outreach work in West Somerset with a series of workshops with students at Danesfield and Minehead Middle Schools.

The students were visited by singers from award-winning professional choir The Marian Consort as part of an ongoing project which will see 150 students from each school working with the Consort and composer Ben Rowarth to create a new piece of music all about ‘The World Around Us’, which they will perform together as part of this year’s festival.

The festival will take place from Friday to Sunday, May 27-29, in St George’s Church, Dunster, and includes concerts from Aurora percussion duo and superstar violinist Daniel Pioro.

A choral workshop on the music of JS Bach and his family will be led by Rory McCleery and an atmospheric late-night performance by viola da gamba player Liam Byrne.

The festival will also partner Watchet’s East Quay to present a new sound installation from composer Roderick Williams from April 30 to May 29 and a fun, free-to-attend interactive family concert at 11am on Saturday, May 28.

Tickets are available to Festival friends from February 14 and the general public from February 21. For more information and to book, visit www.dunsterfestival.co.uk
