THE first Watchet Street Fair of the year proved a rip-roaring success on Sunday (March 6) with visitors able to browse a variety of nearly 50 stalls, several of which were new to the event.
Hot food from around the world, activities for children, and entertainment from the town band added to the event, which was held on The Esplanade.
Event organiser Molly Quint said: “With such serious problems in Ukraine it was decided to have a stall where people could donate money to this cause.
“Watchet Coastal Community Team (WCCT) are thrilled to announce the huge figure of £1,800 was raised.”
All profits from the street fair were donated and children were also able to contribute by buying sunflower seeds, the emblem flower of Ukraine, on a stall organised by Kate Kennedy.
The street fairs are held on the first Sunday of the month between March and October and are now in their seventh year, with arrangements made by a WCCT sub-committee. The next event is on April 3.
Mrs Quint said: “We want to thank all the wonderful people of Watchet and visitors who have given so generously to this cause and to WCCT which will be sending this money through the official Disasters Emergency Committee to help the people who are in such need.”
