FIREFIGHTERS from Williton and Minehead worked through the early hours of this morning (February 15) to tackle a blaze in the roof-space of a house at Old Cleeve.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called to the house by the occupant at 3.30am and found a large amount of smoke coming from the property.”

The fire was in the roof space and four breathing apparatus-wearers gained access using ladders and a series of water jets.

Crews later cut away roofing timbers to expose the extent of the fire and by 5am the blaze had been put out.

But firefighters continued to work with thermal imaging cameras to check for any further fire-spreads.

The building suffered ten per cent fire-damage to the roof and 20 per cent smoke damage to the first floor.
