TWO women, one injured, were dramatically rescued by the emergency services in a race against time after being marooned on rocks on Minehead beach as the tide rose rapidly on Sunday morning.
Fire and rescue teams joined Minehead and Watchet coastguard and a Minehead lifeboat was called in from its Sunday morning training to go to the aid of the women stranded on a rock-armour groyne.
As the tide rose, rescuers managed to reach the women – one had injured her back and head on the rocks – and stretcher them up the beach.
“One was slipping in and out of consciousness,” a Coastguard spokesman said.
The women were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital by ambulance. They are believed not to be seriously injured.
The Coastguard spokesman added: “We would like to remind all those who visit our coastline that rock armour is not intended to be walked over and can be dangerously slippery from being covered in water at high tide.”
