Two coastguard teams – from Watchet and Minehead – an ambulance crew and members of Exmoor Search and Rescue team, went to the aid of a walker who had fallen and broken an ankle in Horner Woods on Sunday.

The injured walker was given pain relief by the Exmoor rescue team’s casualty carers and paramedic before being stretchered with coastguard help, down to the road was out training locally and both coastguard stations responded to give back-up.

“It was an excellent example of rescue organisations working efficiently together,” said a spokesman.

“We would also like to thank the Horner Tea Gardens for letting us use their land-line to update our operations centre because Horner is a ‘dead zone’ for phone and radio signals.”

After treatment at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, the walker was allowed to go home.
