A YOUNG cocker spaniel had a lucky escape last week after falling down a 150-foot cliff at Hurlestone Point near Porlock.
The accident happened when Rachel, 22, of Hillview Road, was out walking with her parents, Richard and Sue Legge, and relatives visiting from London.
“We were near the lookout, just looking out and throwing rocks into the sea when suddenly one caught Indi’s eye. She must have thought it was a ball, and she went after it.
“She slid down and got caught between the rocks. I thought she was dead – I was really upset, but my dad wouldn’t let me go after her. It was too steep,” she said.
The family called 999 and within about 25 minutes they saw the lifeboat arrive, and a search and rescue team came to the top.
Crew members Charlie Gay and Richard Huish swam ashore and found Indi (short for Indigo) among boulders exposed by the low tide at the base of the cliff.
