FIRE crews have been at the scene of a barn fire in Brompton Regis since 4pm yesterday (Friday), only reducing presence to one engine at 9am this morning.

The 60 by 25 metre barn in Kingsland Lane contained about 50 tonnes of hay and straw.

One fire appliance from Wiveliscombe, one from Williton and one from Minehead went to the scene along with a water carrier from Bridgwater.

By 5.30pm, a compressed air foam jet was being used to protect nearby properties such as cattle sheds as well as silage.

A watching brief was set up and continued overnight.
