TWO fire engines, police, ambulance, a specialist rope rescue crew and an aerial platform team were called to the public rose garden in Seaward Way, Minehead,to rescue a man stuck 50ft above the ground in a tree.

The man was trying to reach a drone caught in the branches when he ran into trouble on Thursday afternoon.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “On arrival, a second appliance was requested from Minehead along with a special rescue team from Bridgwater and an aerial ladder platform from Taunton.

“Due to the precarious position of the trapped man and the risk and location above a water-filled culvert, crews used the platform and a 13.5-metre ladder to perform the rescue.

“Police managed traffic on Seaward Way and an ambulance team checked the man when he was finally brought down.”

An onlooker at the scene said: “A red drone was lodged on a branch at least 50 feet up the tree and the man was trying to rescue it when he got stuck in branches and was unable to move.

“There was no way he could have got down unaided. If rescue teams hadn’t arrived, he would probably still be up there now.”
