A FAULTY switch gear inside an electricity cupboard caused a fire in Vennland Way, Minehead, during the night (Sunday).

The first fire crew, which arrived at the scene at 1.29am, found the cupboard to be heavily smoke-logged. A second fire engine was called from Minehead.

After the fire had been put out, a thermal image camera was used to detect hotspots.  

Minor damage was caused to the switchgear and plant room.
