MINEHEAD resident Philip Shanks became the 5,000th visitor to the town's new museum this week, and he is pictured (left) receiving a commemorative certificate from volunteer steward John Godrich. The Minehead Museum opened at the end of March as part of the redeveloped Beach Hotel complex opposite the West Somerset Railway station. "The museum has attracted a lot of interest both from locals and holidaymakers who have enjoyed the exhibits," said trustee Julian Luke. "The museum is completely volunteer run and managed, and, being located next to the railway and the town's visitor information centre, is in a prime position. "Being a new museum, volunteers are working on improving displays all the time and we are already planning for new exhibitions in 2015." Current displays include Minehead at war, Minehead then and now" and one on the yeomanry camps on North Hill. The museum is open six days a week until November (closed on Mondays) and can be contacted by e-mail at [email protected]">[email protected].
