NEW statistics show that South Somerset's waste recycling centre at Lufton Trading Estate in Yeovil was the third most visited in the county last year.
Figures from Wyvern Waste Services (WWS) and the county council say that Taunton was by far the most visited (240,000 visits) followed by Saltlands in Bridgwater (186,000) and Yeovil (183,500).
On average, each visit led to 60kg of rubbish being deposited - ranging from glass bottles, garden waste, furniture and metals to clothing.
Although no exact figures were released, a WWS spokesperson said weekends and bank holidays were the most popular times for people to get rid of their rubbish.
This has, at times, caused congestion at the county's 18 waste recycling centre. "It is worth considering taking your waste and recyclables to the sites on less busy days of the week.
"This may not be so easy if you are working, but even then they could be taken on your way to or from work, or during a lunch break," the spokesperson said.
Yeovil, for example, is open from 8am until 6pm - and will increase its hours until 8pm from April 1st.
Statistics for other recycling centres in this paper's circulation area are: Crewkerne (65,300) and Odcombe 38,300.
