FOLLOWING two weekends without cricket in West Somerset League Division Three, Carhampton welcomed Bishops Hull Second XI to the Recreation Ground on a windy but warm Saturday afternoon.
After Bishops Hull won the toss they put their hosts in to bat on a dry wicket that looked a good surface for batting.
After the early loss of captain Dom Westcott to a good catch at gully, Sam Price set a blistering pace with Paul Keal fulfilling the role of batting stalwart.
The 100 was brought up with some brutal boundary hitting by Price, taking 25 runs off one over, departing shortly after for 62 off 35 balls. A 30+ run partnerships followed with wickets steadily falling and Paul Keal finally bowled for 62 of 71 balls.
Matt Long held together the second half of the innings with 52 not out with contributions from the returning Ryan Cape, Tom Baker and Nick Winzer being out off the final ball of the innings as Carhamtpton ended 287 all out.
Ryan Cape opened the bowling down the hill with an opening spell that did everything apart from take a wicket, his nine overs with two maidens costing just 29 runs.
Winzer bowling up the hill found his mark and took the first four wickets, the first by a spectacular one handed diving catch by Tom Baker. Bishops Hull found themselves 43 for four before settling into a partnership that was broken by first change bowler Chris Clements using home advantage to claim four wickets for seven runs.
Baker continued his wicket taking form with two wickets as Bishops Hull were bowled out for 115 in 25.4 overs to complete an excellent all round team performance.
The Wilkie May and Tuckwood West Somerset man of the match was shared jointly between Nick Winzer and Sam Price.
