NEW firefighters are being recruited to boost the retained crew numbers at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue’s (DSFR) Dulverton station.

The brigade is looking for people aged 18 or older, or those within six months of the milestone birthday.

The Dulverton station, which is one of 83 across Somerset and Devon, is crewed by on-call firefighters who do the same emergency work as wholetimers, but can also have other jobs.

While on duty, they carry a pager which activates when they are needed.

A DSFR spokesperson said: “We are specifically on the lookout for applicants with a passion for making a positive impact in our community, a desire to acquire new skills, and the ability to commit a minimum of two weekdays and one weekend day.

“If you feel this is something you would like to explore further, possess physical fitness, and can promptly respond to the fire station within a five-minute window from your residence or workplace, we would like to hear from you.”

The spokesperson said the role was a paid position and offered flexibility to accommodate various lifestyles along with standard work benefits.

They said: “We welcome discussions to determine if your circumstances can work with the availability required.”

Anybody interested can go to the station’s weekly drill night, held on Tuesdays between 7 pm and 9 pm.

Or, an application email address will be available on the DFRS website here from noon on March 4 when it is launching a new on-call firefighter eRecruitment system.
