TWO West Somerset people - Allan Searle and Rachel Hayes – have been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Allan, 80, who has devoted himself to village activities since he moved to Stogumber in 1961, said he was “absolutely honoured and privileged to receive such an award” for his services to the community.
He has been on the parish council for 26 years and continues to serve as chairman – a post he has held for the last 16 years.
Rachel, 32, of Knowstone near South Molton, was awarded the BEM for her services to women in the energy sector.
She set up a very successful national Women in Renewables Network in 2014. It now has over 500 members and its aim is to help women develop and reach senior levels as there is a real shortage of women in this very male dominated sector.
