Members of the public are welcome to join representatives from the forces, councillors and staff at 11am when council chairman Cllr Bruce Heywood will be raising the flag, maintaining a tradition set in previous years.

He will lead the tributes with Armed Forces Champion Cllr Stuart Dowding.

Chief executive Penny James, who is due to join the group said: “Our Armed Forces continue to command our respect for their professionalism and dedication.

“Flying the flag is our way of showing our gratitude and respect for the professionalism, commitment and courage of our Armed Forces, past, present and future.

“Put simply, they are the reason that we can all live peacefully at home.”
