THE first phase of Watchet’s East Quay development will not have a distinctive lookout tower after residents had some “serious concerns” about its design, the project’s developers have revealed.
Onion Collective CIC director Georgie Grant said a lookout tower would be in a different location and its construction was being delayed.
She said there would be a “community engagement process” around the new design so that residents could become involved in its creation.
Other changes would involve a new high quality public realm scheme, a landscape architecture scheme and removing the ‘take away’ hatch from the ground floor restaurant.
The development is planned to include maker workspaces, a state of the art tgallery, self-catering accommodation and a restaurant situated on the quayside of Watchet’s marina.
It aims to bring jobs, nurture creative enterprise and attract visitors to Watchet. Consultations last year involved ten presentation workshops and eight drop-in sessions.
