Training and job seekers’ chance to meet experts

By in Community News

WEST Somerset people looking for a job, training or new career will be given the chance to talk to the experts at an event in Minehead on Friday, February 24.

The event will see employers and training providers come together to raise awareness of current opportunities in the area.

Representatives from a host of employers will be attending, including EDF Energy, Foxes Academy, Somerset Larder, Passenger Solutions, Butlin’s, Berry’s Coaches, the Premier Inn and Brewers Fair.

The event will also offer advice and information directly from employers on what they look for when recruiting, advice on how existing skills can transfer into a new career.

Local training providers will be on hand to answer questions in relation to skills development and training, helping to ensure that people become suitably qualified for current and future job roles.

Opportunity Plus will be providing a range of workshops leading up to the event on top tips on writing CVs and how best to prepare for an interview at Minehead Jobcentre.

Cllr Karen Mills, lead member for economic development at West Somerset Council, said: “This event provides the perfect opportunity for our community to find out more about local employment and training opportunities available in the area now or in the near future and to speak to employers about what they look for when recruiting.

“We are really pleased to be working with the Jobcentre and other partners on the Recruit West Somerset Event.

“We hope, like previous events that we have run over the years, that this event this has some great outcomes for the people of West Somerset.”

Anyone who is interested in attending should come along with a copy of their CV as some employers will have current vacancies and apprenticeships on offer.

The event will take place at The Beach Hotel from 9.30am until 11.30am. The organisers include West Somerset Council, Jobcentre Plus, Opportunity Plus, The Beach Hotel and Union Learn.
